Short version: don’t buy anything non-essential during April 2010. Make do with what you have. Enjoy and use your possessions. Don’t add piles of new stuff to your existing piles of stuff.
Longer version: imagine a month-long version of Buy Nothing Day and you’re on the right track. Save your money, plunk it in a piggy bank or lock your credit card away for the month.
30 days of April, 30 days of not buying anything that’s non-essential (please excuse the double-negative).
- Normal mode: don’t buy anything non-essential.
- Turbo mode: as above, and pick some stuff to sell or give to charity.
- Hardcore mode: as Normal, but actively Freecycle or Freegle your excess/unused/unwanted stuff.
- Extreme mode: a combination of the above, and get your food/drink/essentials from local/ethical sources. Support a local/ethical cause.
Who’s up for this? I am.
